The obesity is a disease that keeps an abnormal
accumulation of fat that can be harmful to the person. The Body Mass Index
(BNI) is a simple index of weight for height that is commonly used to classify
overweight and the obesity in adults, it is a tool very important because
provides the most useful population level measure of overweight and obesity as,
it is the same for both sexes and for all ages of adults is not exact but it
helps with the identification of the disease.
Among the causes of the obesity are the increase
intake at energy dense foods that are high in fat and the increase in physical
inactivity to the increasingly sedentary nature of many forms of work, for
example from the home. Also the changes in diets and the result of society in
sector such as health, transport, food processing and the globalization.
Among the consequences of this increase are the
cardiovascular disease, mainly heart, stroke diseases, diabetes,
muscoleskeletal disordes and same cancers in a endometrial and the colon. But the
most important is the premature death and disability in adulthood.
Among the plans for reducing the obesity are limit
energy from total fats and sugar, increase consume of fruit and vegetables as
legumes, grains and nuts. And of course, practice regular physical activity,
the doctors recommend 60 minutes a day for children and 150 minutes per week
for adults. The individual responsibility can only have is full effect when
people have access to a healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion we have or need to change this situation
because is important to decrease statistics of the world and specific ally in
Costa Rica, where we have a high level of this disease but we need more social
conscience compaigns for the people to understand this reality that is a dangerous
for our generations.
